Family Background

  My name is Lin, Jen Yi.  I was born in a family with a harmonious atmosphere.  Since I was a little child, my parents have told me, '' A bold attempt is half success.''  As a consequence, they always encourage me to learn new things and not to be afraid of making mistakes because I will obtain a variety of experiences from both the success and the failure.  My parents are not only good teachers to me but also close friends whom I can share all my happiness and sadness with.  As for my whole family members, we would share our everyday experience every night and that's why we have a close relationship.  When I am in a dilemma, I find that they support and comfort me all the time; what's more, they provides useful suggestions for me, which give me power to meet the challenges.  Brought up with my parents' careful concern, I have grown up as a responsible and honest person.
 

School Life

  I am studying at Department of Applied Foreign Languages in National Tainan Commercial Vocational Senior High School.  Since I was admitted to the school, I have resolved to study hard and make good use of the following three years to improve my English ability due to my strong interest in English.  I am willing to participate in various kinds of English competitions because I believe that no matter I win or fail, I will more or less make some progress in English with the assistance and training from the teachers and my own preparation. Nevertheless, I am still confronted with some obstacles, but I never give up and try to find good ways to overcome them.  Every time after each competition, I do benefit a lot from these experiences and have great advancement. For instance, I have learned how to pronounce words more exactly, how to read sentences with more emotions, how to express my ideas naturally in front of lots of audience, and how to make my presentations more animated with proper gestures or interactions. 
  I always pay attention in class and make efforts to do well on my homework, studies, and reports.  As a consequence, I can keep being the top five in my class.  What's more, sometimes I will talk to my friends or myself in English.  Although it sounds a little crazy, but this kind of practice makes me behave more naturally when I have to interact with foreigners in real life.  To my delight, all my efforts paid off because I passed the Intermediate-level Certificate of General English Proficiency Test, and was awarded third place in the Level 2 of the Test of English Ability Association. 
  When it comes to some invigorating moments in my high school life, it is the season when the sports competitions start that I have a good time enjoying the games.  Most of my classmates are good at playing basketball and volleyball and they often practice playing basketball and volleyball after school. Sometimes I join them, too.  Hence, my class always succeeds in sports competitions.  The time that we spend on playing balls and taking part in the competitions is all full of my favorite memories that I won't forget forever.
  In addition to some English-related activities, sometimes I will become a volunteer to do something in the library and in the hospital.  Not only is it a good opportunity to have more social experiences but it is also a way to help others.  For instance, when I acted as a volunteer in a hospital, I learned how to communicate with different kinds of people, and tried to provide proper aids with those who were in need.  I think these skills are what I can't learn in school, but they are definitely useful to me and broaden my horizons.

Future Perspectives

  Based on my persistent interest in English, instead of feeling fed up with English, I still have the tendency to keep on learning it and even set up a goal to choose English-related job as my career, especially to be an interpreter.  Nonetheless, with my present ability, I haven’t had enough competence for being an interpreter because it requires a variety of knowledge and a better command of English.  Hence, National Taiwan University of Science and Technology is an ideal university which I have been longing for.  I believe that if I can receive the education in the university with its professional courses and extraordinary teaching resources, I will qualify as an interpreter. 
Furthermore, I will try hard to equip myself with professional English skills during the four years.  For instance, as I enter the university, I will start to develop my speaking and listening abilities by seizing every chance to practice speaking English and watching English programs every day because they are the ones that I need to learn with more exertion.  I think I should make every day in my life full of more or less English to make sure that I won't be unfamiliar with it.  I want to get excellent grades in the TOEIC in the first two years in the university to prove my English ability with an international certification.  Of course, in addition to the aid of the university, I will continue to read English books, watch English programs and movies, and practice speaking English with my friends.  Most important of all, with an eye to advancing my English skills in all aspects, I sincerely hope that I can be admitted to your school.

Conclusion

  English to me is like an intimate friend or a family member who I have deemed it an indispensable part in my life.  I enjoy experiencing both the difficulties and achievements when I am learning English.  Furthermore, such is my strong interest in English that even if my English competence still leaves something to be desired, I will do my utmost to advance my ability and attain more certificates.  To sum up, after you read my autobiography, I hope that my qualification will affirm that I am a competitive applicant, and I am really yearning to be admitted to National Taiwan University of Science and Technology.

I am Lin. Sophia is my English name. I am 18 years old, studying in a public girls’ high school. I come from a very happy middle class family. My father works in a bank and my mother works in a bookstore. I am not the so-called spoiled child. My parents make very sure of that by training me to be independent.

Throughout my academic career I have not only gotten good grades but also been very active on sport field and have involved in various societies. I play volleyball and enjoy the team spirit we have. I have joined the drama club and participated in many English speech contests. I really enjoy participating in school activities. I not only made many friends, but also gained many different valuable experiences.

I have been the class English tutor for almost three years. I like to discuss and share the experience of learning English with people a lot. My fondness for English is developed from my childhood. It’s lonely to be the only child. I had no one to play with when I was a kid. My mom knew this so she took me with her all the time. Hence bookstores became my playground and books have been my playmates since I was young. My mom would show me those fancy books with cute illustrations on it. Firstly I was drawn by the pictures and then I was curious about these strange symbols called words. That was my first contact with English. As I was interested what those symbol meant, my parents taught me a bit. As they felt that I was eager to learn, they found me an English tutor. Thanks to my parents got the advantage of learning English by starting it at really early age.

My interest in English brought me to the world of English literature. I have been enchanted by this creative world since then, so I decide to major in English literature. My aim is to explore the world of literature and the world of great writers, to open my eyes and cultivate my mind through this great world of literature.

Besides English literature, I also have a wide range of hobbies. I love reading, Writing, music and movies. I have my active side as well, I enjoy swimming, hiking, raveling and going to the nature a lot. I believe we must have balance in our lives, As to my personality. My name is Yang. I am 17 years old. My English name is Wendy. There are seven people in my family, and I am the second child among five. My father is the undertaker of a factory and my mother is a housewife. My sister is a university student, while my younger sisters and brothers are junior high school students. Luckily, I have a happy family with open-minded parents and have a life with affluent materials.

Since I was a kindergarten student, I enjoyed singing and dancing very much. Usually, I volunteered to perform in front of the class. I remember then, I liked to watch variety shows, and that’s how I learned to sing popular songs. Those singers and actors who perform in TV programs are my idols. Every time we hold the birthday celebration for my grandparents, it is me who have to imitate the singers in front of the relatives to amuse them. I felt entertaining people is such a great enjoyment.

Throughout my school time, I have been a regular student in study, but have excellent performance on various activities. Speech, painting, singing contests are my battlefield and the place for me to win my honor. Besides, I have wide range of hobbies. I enjoy reading novels, seeing movies, swimming, mountain hiking, roller-staking and overseas traveling. Also I join the badminton and drama clubs. I spend most of my time in the drama club after school, for every one of our club members has to undertake the role of both the performer and the staff. There are so many works to be done before a play is ready and all of our club members have to contribute ourselves what we are good at. While working with those vigorous and creative fellows I never feel tired or bored.

This summer, my drama club produces a play called ”Aladdin” as our graduation ceremony show. I played Aladdin’s mother, a comic role in the play with greedy and sarcastic characteristics. Because it was a musical, all the actors had to sing and dance at the same time. And thanks to the professional teachers who volunteered to instruct us, we even did the chorus during the play, which was a quartet with fantastic dancing. During the holidays we came to school doing rehearsals and made the costume and by this creative stage world that I stared to think very seriously that whether it was a dream for me to pursuit. My parents tell me to do what I want but not what I am expected to and this is why I decided to apply myself to the drama department.
I want to become a stage actress as other companies who have the same ideal.

To me, a play not only can offer people entertainment, but also in many times, it can provide people a different point of view toward lives. Compare to those with full trained skill, who come from a professional school, maybe I am far too idealistic and naive. I know nothing is easy and I think to be a drama department student would be a big challenge. I have learned a line from my English teacher that is, ”Not until you give it a try will you know the result.” I got passion and expectation to myself, wish you would give me a opportunity to make my dream come true.

  There has been a huge increase in population around the world over the past 150 years.  As for what brings about this, several elements are included.  To begin with, as a consequence of the better sanitation, the risk of getting sick has decreased.  What's more, poeple nowadays have learned a lot about sanitation and have practiced well to prevent possible diseases or flu.  In addition, food plays an important role in people's daily life, and thanks to the improved farming methods that produce even more various and better food, they enable people to absorb more kinds of  nutrients and provide people with strength and energy.  Moreover, on feeling sick, people can go to the hospital for a health check as a result of advances in medicine and health care.  The earlier the illness is discovered, the sooner people can receive appropriate cure or undergo an operation.  Last but not the least, due to the improvement of public hygiene, advanced technology, as well as other factors, fewer infant die and more people live longer.  To sum up, based on what are mentioned above, we can figure out how these causes lead to the increase in population.

  Stanly Manufacturing's decision to open a large factory is inferred that it will lead to a big revolution to Acton.  As far as I am concerned, I'm in favor of it.  Hence, there are some positve effects that I think they ought to be understood by the residents.  To begin with, after its completion, it must provide the residents with more job opportunities.  As a result, instead of having to move to another city for work, not only can the people in the town breathe a sigh of relief about unemployment here but more people will be attracted to the town.  In addition, the residents will have more opportunities to deal with various kinds of people.  Thus, during the process of the interaction, they can make different friends who will not only vary their dialy lives but also broaden their horizons.  Last but not the least, with the increasing population, it definitely brings about the prosperity due to more frequent trades in the town.  In conclusion, owing to what are mentioned above, the residents should take all the viewpoints into account and they will know how many benefits they will obtain from it and then agree with the construction.  On the other side, Stanly Manufacturing should make enough preparations and implement some measures to set the residents' mind at ease.

  There is no denying that almost everyone will fall in love with someone, and getting married is a form of life.  Nevertheless, one should give some thoughts to it first because it does require a great deal of courage and determination.  Bathed in love for over three years, I am determined to get married, which has both positive and negtive influence on my life.  To begin with, I'm necessary to leave the shelter of my parents.  I have lived with them for more than 20 years; as a result, there will be great diversity which needs a period of time to adapt to because of the brand-new life between my husband and me.  In addition, now that I start with my life in a new house, it's for sure that I will suffer from doing a variety of housework.  Thus, like all novices who have to learn to do this, I'm no exception.  Moreover, after entering another stage of life, not only should I  become more mature about both behavior and mind but I also should make every decision before thinking twice.  Last but not the least, based on the love to my husband, I will support him all the time.  As a consequence, we will face and get through all challenges and difficulties together.  To sum up, although I have met some challenges, I still satisfied with the marriage and lead a happy life.  What's more, I will hold the positive attitude toward it in the future.

  When it comes to the factors that lead to the failure of  the music store belonging to Michael Williams, there are several reasons included.  To begin with, the place where the small music store is situated in is so remote from the urban area that it's possible to be ignored.  Moreover, the categories of the CDs are too limited; as a result, it is only attractive to people liking hip-hop and rock.  Besides, most of the residents in the Fairfax are in the age group over 40; therefore, they may prefer to other kinds of music instead of hip-hop and rock, which would enable the store to lose the opportunity to get their attention.  Futhermore, since it's a small store, the owner needn't hire too many employees, and if he cuts down on the cost of salary, he would save more money.  In addition, the open time doesn't correspond to when most customers might walk past it; thus, the open time should be put emphasis on weekends.  To sum up, in my opinion, Michael Williams ought to brood over what brought about his failure, and if he wants to start a new business, he can take the analysis above into consideration.
